Just when I thought it was safe to reach into my mailbox, I find this: The Epoch Times

Please follow the link to the Wikipedia entry which gives an accurate but fair take on the paper. My more accurate take on it is that it is a conspiracy rag on the level of Alex Jones and his ilk.

This article from an ABC affiliate in California talks about the mass mailing of this conservative rag and puts in a little work at fact checking. Needless to say, it does not go well for The Epoch Times. Historically, the paper has been known for its staunchly anti-Communist views with a focus on the Chinese government. Which, as far as that goes, is fine with me! As a card carrying liberal and progressive, I am also staunchly anti-Communist and bristle at any comparison with liberalism. But in 2016 the paper put all of its energies into supporting the election of Donald Trump and the destruction of Hillary Clinton by the spread of specious and scurrilous conspiracies about her.

But while misinformation/disinformation from conservatives is nothing new, what troubles me is that this is a dead-tree print newspaper that is printed in several languages but mainly in Chinese. Which leads me to wonder what progressives are doing to counteract misinformation/disinformation being spread in foreign language communities within the United States. I am aware of efforts within the LatinX communities but I have no idea about ay others like Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese — communities that have had direct and recent experience with communism. Conservatives have limitless funds to spread lies everywhere and all it takes is for them to shave 1-2% of support from Democrats to have a noticeable effect.
